Kid’s Activities & Crafts

My daughter recently became fascinated with the tooth fairy, probably influenced by an older friend or cousin. At just four years old, she is eagerly awaiting her first loose tooth. While we may have to wait a few years for that milestone, it doesn’t mean we can’t indulge in some tooth fairy-inspired activities! One of our favorite projects is creating glittery tooth fairy coins, perfect for sparking a little magic in our home. These coins are a fantastic way to repurpose old coins, and they add a delightful sparkle to the tooth fairy tradition. Foreign coins work wonderfully for this craft, as many of them are small and delicate, ideal for tooth fairy currency.

How to Make Glittery Tooth Fairy Coins

To begin, gather an assortment of small coins. Pennies work well if you still have some lying around, but any small coin will do. Foreign coins are particularly charming due to their size and uniqueness.

Step 1: Paint the Coins Start by spraying the coins with spray paint in your chosen colors. We opted for pink and blue to give the coins a magical look. If you prefer the coins to retain their authentic metallic look but still want them to sparkle, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Apply Glitter Next, spray a layer of clear acrylic spray on the coins. While the spray is still wet, dust the coins with fine craft glitter. We used a mix of translucent purple, aqua, and shimmery gold glitter for a varied, enchanting effect. Allow the coins to dry completely before flipping them over to repeat the process on the other side.

Step 3: Seal the Glitter For extra glitter control and durability, give both sides of the coins a final coat of clear acrylic spray. This step helps ensure the glitter stays in place and makes the coins easier to handle without shedding sparkles everywhere.

These glittery tooth fairy coins are incredibly fun to make and bring a touch of magic to the tooth fairy experience. When my daughter eventually loses her first tooth, she will be thrilled to discover these shimmering treasures under her pillow. These coins are not only a delightful alternative to regular money but also offer a whimsical way to reward your child for their milestone.

The Magic of Tooth Fairy Coins

Tooth fairy coins are an excellent idea for kids who are just beginning to lose their baby teeth and aren’t yet familiar with handling money. When a tooth falls out, you can leave a few of these sparkly coins under their pillow. They can then exchange these special coins for a small prize or treat, adding an extra layer of excitement and magic to the experience.

For an additional touch, consider creating a tooth fairy album to store your child’s baby teeth. This keepsake not only preserves the memory of each lost tooth but also makes for a wonderful gift. The combination of the tooth fairy coins and the album creates a magical and memorable way to celebrate this childhood milestone.

Our homemade glittery tooth fairy coins have brought so much joy and anticipation to our household. They are easy to make, require minimal materials, and provide endless delight for kids awaiting their first visit from the tooth fairy. Whether you’re preparing for an upcoming tooth loss or simply looking for a fun craft to do with your child, these coins are sure to add a sparkle to your day.
