How to Make Healthy Gummy Bears

How to Make Healthy Gummy Bears

Gummy bears are super fun to eat but I never thought about trying to make them until just the other day. It turns out, homemade gummy bears are very easy to make and you can infuse them with healthy juices, honey, and fresh squeezed citrus! My kids love gummy bears but I we limit the kids’ sugar intake each day to help those little immunities. These DIY gummy bears are made with orange juice and sweetened with honey! I don’t mind if my kids snack on these relatively healthy gummy bears and it’s fun to customize the flavors.

Healthy Gummy Bear Instructions

Combine the orange juice, lemon juice, honey, and cinnamon in a sauce pan and heat until just bubbly. I squeezed in fresh lemon juice using my handy ergonomic citrus squeezer, which makes it so easy to extract most of the juice from any small sized citrus! You can make your gummy bears extra healthy by using fresh squeezed orange juice and sweetening it with raw honey.

Next, slowly whisk in the gelatin a little at a time to avoid creating clumps. Dumping it in all at once will create a sticky, clumpy mess. I combined the packets of gelatin in a bowl and sprinkled it into the hot liquid a little at a time while constantly whisking the mixture.

Once you’ve fully added the gelatin to the juice mixture, continue stirring until it is fully melted and combined, resembling a glassy texture.

Siphon or carefully spoon the gelatin mixture into the silicone molds. These gummy bear molds came with a really handy bulb syringe that makes filling the molds very quick and easy. Any liquid that spills over onto the separation between the molds will create a thin skin that can easily be removed later if connected to any of the gummy bears. I’d highly recommend getting a silicone gummy bear mold set that comes with a bulb syringe just for simplicity. Pop these homemade gummy bears into the freezer for 20 minutes to let them set and easily press each gummy bear out of the mold. The silicone gummy bear molds easily clean up in the dishwasher or by rinsing in the sink.

How to make your own Gummy Bears - Mommy Scene

My kids love having morning and afternoon snacks so I try to make them healthy snack options and creatively introduce them to new foods. Smoothies and air-popped popcorn make great kids snacks too! It’s also important to encourage your kids to stay hydrated while they are burning off their energy by running around.

Stay Hydrated with Bubi Silicone Bottles

Get your kids excited about staying hydrated and drinking water by buying them a colorful squishable Bubi water bottle! These unique bottles are made from silicone which is naturally mold resistant. The top cap is easy for a child to remove and the inner insert comes out so you can easily access the interior of the bottle for washing. Bubi silicone bottles even have a convenient clip to attach to your backpack.

Drinking a glass of lemon juice and water causes the pH of the blood and urinary tract to change from acidic to alkaline and help prevent badder infections, which can be a struggle with young children. Overall, lemon juice contains Vitamin C and plenty of natural refreshment; a much better beverage choice than soda and sugary juices!
