If you're a football fan, you've most likely caught your fair share of games this season. I couldn't tell you many of the rules of football, but I've even watched a game or two, mostly for the social interaction and delicious food of course. Good games usually accompany good food but you don't have to bend over backwards to score a touchdown with your game day appetizers. Here are some of my favorite football snacks that are pretty easy to make!
Your crowd will love these bite-sized twice baked potatoes, packed with gourmet flavor and as easy to eat as a potato chip! Just be sure to make enough!
Homemade nacho cheese is even easier to make, simply heat up heavy cream and mix in shredded cheddar cheese and a spoonful of jalapenos, to taste. You can't go wrong with heavy cream because it won't easily burn or separate. Spoon your homemade nacho cheese sauce over chips or re-fried beans, and top with chopped avocado and sour cream.
If you can make pizza, you can make homemade dessert pizza! Whip up your favorite homemade pizza dough recipe, roll it out and top your pizza with butter, brown sugar, marshmallows and drizzled chocolate. Bake just like a pizza, checking occasionally to make sure your marshmallows aren't burning. Just make sure to add enough sweet pizza toppings to balance out the doughy flavor of the pizza dough. Homemade dessert pizza is a hit with kids too and a perfect treat to enjoy a football game.
This takes the most time of all my football food faves, but homemade deep fried potato salad is worth the work! Simply chop up sweet potatoes and russet potatoes into small cubes and deep fry them in batches. Add your dressing an voila! your football appetizer spread just skyrocketed in gourmet deliciousness.
Fill frying pan 1/2 way with canola oil. Turn the heat up to medium.
Cut all the potatoes into 1/4 inch cubes. Make cuts as even as possible to ensure even frying. Chop the green onion and toss the root end. Fry and chop the bacon.
Once the oil is hot, fry the potatoes in batches but don't overload the pan, until just brown and soft. Drain the potatoes on paper towels in a large bowl and sprinkle each batch with salt as it's finished.
While the potatoes are frying, mix together the mayonnaise, mustard, chipotle, and mustard powder. Set aside in the refrigerator. Once all the potatoes are finished, allow to cool for 5 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, toss together the potatoes, green onion, bacon, and dressing. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!
Of course I must include a favorite drink in my football food favorites! Boba is so much fun and easy to make. You just have to buy the large tapioca / boba bubble tea balls and prepare them. Boba tapioca balls can be added to any of your favorite drinks, but they are most commonly paired with fruity juices and smoothies, and milk teas.
It's important to note that "Boba" is interchangeably called bubble tea, boba pearls, bubble tea pearls, and boba tapioca balls. These tapioca pearls usually are black and are made from cassava starch, sweet potato and brown sugar.
Boba tapioca balls come in a powdery ball form. Don't crush the balls before you cook them or they will turn into jelly. Follow the directions on your package of boba to prepare them, since different kinds of bubble tea have different cooking times and requirements.
Once cooked, rinse and drain your bubble tea pearls and sweeten them with a simple syrup. Bring 1 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar to a boil, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Allow your simple syrup to cool and stir in your cooked bubble tea balls. You now have sweetened boba bubble tea to add to any drink!
Peach Mango Bubble Tea
I mixed up a juicy smoothie with peaches, mango, and ice in my Nutri Ninja blender. Fill a cup 1/3 of the way with sweetened boba bubble tea pearls and some of the syrup to sweeten your drink. Top off with your smoothie of choice or freshly blended fruit juice.
Milk Tea with Boba Pearls
To make milk tea, simply make a strong cup of black tea or Thai tea and allow it to cool. Fill a cup 1/3 of the way with sweetened boba bubble tea pearls and some of the simple syrup and fill the cup the rest of the way with tea. Top off with a dash of half and half or heavy cream. If you want, leave room for ice. Don't forget to pick up some bubble tea straws, and enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed my game day appetizers and football food ideas! When the kick off happens you can have the couch to yourself because your friends will be too busy loading up their plates with delicious appetizers and snacks.
