The other day I experimented with making homemade caramel sauce for lattes and it turn out amazingly! I've been craving caramel lattes lately but rarely find the time to leave the house to snag one, with my three little ones in tow. We have an espresso machine, so the only thing I was missing was rich, buttery caramel sauce! I was excited learn how easy is it to recreate the delicious Starbucks-like caramel sauce at home in your own kitchen!
I actually created this recipe on a whim, thinking — creamy, caramely... I heated up whipping cream and dropped in a few caramel candies I've had sitting around since Christmas. The thing is, caramel sauce is actually kind of expensive for the good kind, and these caramel candies are a few dollars for a whole bag. Making your own caramel sauce also allows it to be fresh.
I just heated up the whipping cream, added the unwrapped caramel candies, and stirred until they dissolved. You can heat the cream in the microwave or on the stove top. Whipping cream won't easily burn or separate thanks to the "cream".
In just a few minutes and about 20 stirs with a spoon, my homemade caramel sauce looks delicious!
You can use your homemade caramel syrup hot (it will be thinner), or let it chill in the refrigerator to achieve a thick, smooth texture. I prefer the chilled version, since thicker caramel sauce is easier to drizzle over an espresso latte.
Make delicious latte with homemade caramel sauce — simple to whip up with heated heavy cream and melted caramel candies!
Homemade caramel sauce would be amazing on ice cream or brownies too! Or drizzled on top of homemade Apple Pie... yum.
