The Double Camping Hammock from Live Infinitely is an innovative solution for off-the-ground shelter while camping or hunting. Our family lives in Idaho where opportunities abound to sleep out under the stars. When hunting and ATVing, it's smart to pack lightly and ensure set up and tear down is hassle-free. Using a camping hammock means you don't have to take the time to set up a tent or keep track of the tent poles and ground spikes. You can just string up a hammock between two trees and you are all set.
Live Infintely's Camping Hammock is made from strong and weather resistant lightweight parachute nylon. The hammock includes a stretch resistant tree strap suspension system that tethers the hammock between two trees. It also easily stuffs back into its portable drawstring carrying bag. The only thing you need to worry about is the weather; but on a balmy night this hammock makes setting up camp simple so you can focus on the important things; like preparing food over the fire or scouting out the area for the next day's hunt or ride.
Setting up the hammock is fairly easy; if possible try to keep the straps close to a 45 degree angle so both tree straps equally share the load. You can wrap the strap around the tree as many times as you need and you can also change the location of the metal lashing ring. To adjust the strap length you can move the ring to the backside of the tree and then wrap the hammock side of the strap in between the tree and strap a couple times to get the best adjustment. The trees in this photo below weren't ideal because they are spaced too far apart. I switched to using trees that were closer together in the yard to test out my hammock, which worked much better.
This was my first time setting up a portable hammock. I often go on day rides through the forest on my ATV, or longer rides cross country on my motorcycle, so the concept of a lightweight alternative to a tent is appealing, especially since I often have limited space on my vehicle. I found the straps that came with the Live Infinitely Hammock simply to wrap around a tree and they tightened easily. The straps loop through the buckle and switch back to hold the weight.
The carabiners included on the hammock were top notch and easy to clasp to the straps. When it was fully set up, the hammock seemed narrow just hanging loose, but when I pulled each edge apart I could see it was very wide, with even enough material to wrap around as a covering over me and keep bugs away.
My daughter had fun trying the camping hammock out too!
Choosing trees with a good space between them is very important when placing a hammock. Too far away and the straps will be too tight, and too close and the straps will be too loose and the hammock could touch the ground when you get in it. The instructions recommend suspending the hammock between two trees that allow the hammock straps to hang at 45 degree angles.
Securing both straps at a similar height and the recommended angle (45 degrees) is also important so that the weight can be evenly distributed on both sides. I had one issue with stretching the straps too tightly, and one of them actually came unstitched. Live Infinitely had great customer service and sent a replacement strap right away, along with their recommendations for use.
Don't overload the hammock! The last thing you want is to fall on your back. This hammock is designed for one person and everything tends to roll towards the middle, making it challenging for two people to comfortably use it at the same time.
The Live Infinitely Camping Hammock easily rolls up (straps and all) and snugly fits into the attached drawstring carrying case.
This camping hammock is concisely sized so it easily fits into a backpack or storage area on an ATV or motorcycle.
Overall, I would be happy to take this camping hammock on my next summer trip, but I would like to also find a hammock cover that will completely repel rain (and light), to ensure the best experience out on the trail. The whole kit is less than two pounds, which is a good weight for one person to bring along for shelter, with the added benefit of being up and off the ground!
