I've been using the Shuga Bebe Couture nursing pillow for a couple weeks now since I received one for review. My only question is, where has this been all my mommy-life?! The Shuga Bebe nursing pillow is truly a one-size-fits-all, comfortable, no fuss pillow. This innovative nursing pillow was designed by a mother who found previous nursing pillows to be lacking in support, comfort, functionality and even looks. Determined to create a pillow that would actually meet her needs, she created designs by hand until she felt she had created what was the perfect nursing pillow. I am thankful she put so much effort into designing this pillow and is now making her creation available to other nursing mommas!
I personally had a horrible first few months of nursing with my baby. We had difficulty with proper latching and positioning that gave me tremendous pain and I came very close to throwing in the towel with nursing many times. I had tried two different types of nursing pillows that were made to position around one's waist and though one was more helpful than the other I still found them both lacking for my nursing needs. Using the Shuga Bebe pillow for just a few weeks now I've decided this will be the only pillow I use for my next babies! It is much higher than other nursing pillows, allowing the baby's head to rest at a proper latching position, high and close to the breast. I also love the angled design of the pillow. My baby always had trouble with digestion and would spit up while nursing or get a lot air trapped in his belly. I was always contorting my arms and stacking up pillows to try and keep him nursing at an angle to prevent air bubbles from building up in his tummy but the Shuga Bebe has that angle built into it's design. The width of the pillow offerers great arm and elbow support which makes nursing a sleepy baby much more comfortable especially for an exhausted momma. The firm support is great for those middle of the night feedings when my arms feel like noodles!
I found the Shuga Bebe pillow to be very versatile as I tried using it in various nursing positions and places such as a bed, a couch and even a glider chair. I especially loved using it on my bed. When my baby boy was a newborn my bed is where I almost always fed him. Other nursing pillows I tried gave almost no support when used in a more reclined position in a bed with no arm rails. I would say the Shuga Bebe pillow works best for use in a bed, couch, a big comfy recliner chair or wider chairs with lower arm rests. It seemed to be a little too bulky in a traditional high armed rocking chair.
Dad0"s and friends or family holding the baby would also love using this pillow as it provides that extra support to help comfortably cradle a newborn in your arms for snuggles. This nursing pillow would also be helpful for bottle-feeding moms because of the great arm support and the gentle angle at which the baby can lay to feed can help reduce colic or reflux symptoms.
For convenience the Shuga Bebe pillow has an outer cover that can be removed for machine washing. There are also extra covers you can purchase so you always have a fresh cover ready while you wash the other one. There are a bunch of beautiful patterns and color schemes to chose from. The shape of this pillow is even makes it look much nicer when included with your bedding or throw pillows on your couch. With a variety of colors and patterns to choose from it would be easy to find one that compliments your bedding or living room color scheme. Mine pretty much stays on our couch or bed now and I love how it looks like just another throw pillow when I'm not using it.
The Shuga Bebe Nursing Pillow is my new personal favorite baby-must-have item. Those early weeks (or months) of nursing can be so rough. The support this pillow gives to a nursing mom and infant plus the ease of use and versatility of this product make it a very worth while investment. This would be a very thoughtful gift for a new mother that she will be sure to love!
