Life with kids changes a lot, which you know if you have them yourself. I no longer can run out to do a quick errand without extensive planning and packing for the occasion. Each child usually needs diapers, snacks, and an extra change of clothes, and the day I forget to bring an extra shirt for one of the kids is usually the day I need one. I even ran home from church today because our 2-year-old somehow escaped the house covered in yogurt. Life with kids also includes fun times such as doing creative crafts and watching them learn new things. I love the cozy moments with my kids before bedtime with a book and a favorite stuffed animal. This weekend we ventured out to a local botanical garden, which is always really fun to walk around and enjoy the sunshine. Botanical gardens always have lots of beautiful flowers that sometimes change depending on which season it is when you visit. Our kids love running through the grass and exploring the various trails and avenues throughout the beautiful curated gardens.
My little girls romped around the flowers wearing their darling Matilda Jane outfits. My oldest insisted on wearing her hello kitty socks, which pair perfectly with Matilda Jane because their stylish clothing goes with everything! Matilda Jane dresses can be dressed up or dressed down for any occasion, whether playing in the backyard sandbox or wearing to a wedding. They are also very versatile because some of Matilda Jane's dresses can be worn as a top as a girl gets older. Many of the dresses have straps that tie and can be adjusted. I love their contrasting colors and patterns; every design from Matilda Jane Clothing is usually unexpected, perfectly coordinated, and an instant classic for little girls who love to twirl!
My toddler's cute yellow and pink tie dress pairs sweetly with her favorite shoes that I found secondhand for $1.50. These adorable heart leggings from Doodle Pants add a festive pop of color and bring out some of the blue in the plaid pattern and blue buttons on the Matilda Jane dress.
The girls also took their new WellieWishers American Girl dolls to the park. These darling dolls are slightly smaller American Girl dolls with similar detailing and quality, designed for girls ages 5 and older. You can choose from 5 friends that each have their own stylish outfits and dreams. Several books starring the WellieWishers are also available. See our full WellieWishers American Girl review here! Our girls' dolls are named Ashlyn and Camille; I love each doll's adorable outfits and cute wellie boots!
We discovered some big raindrops as we explored this beautifully scenic Japanese garden surrounding a pool filled with big Koi fish.
My little boy is always curious to explore the world around him. He will be eagerly trying to keep up with his sisters in no time at all! These cute Doddle Pants kept him cozy on our garden exploration outing. Doodle Pants are stretchy leggings with a fun pattern on the legs and a cute design on the backside. My little guy is sporting a penguin with shades!
Doodle Pants are colorful, stylish, and come in a variety of sizes from 3 to 24 months. These fun and colorful baby pants are versatile for all seasons! They are also very soft and stretchy.
This little girl loves riding the carousel every chance she gets. What little girl isn't enchanted by beautifully painted vintage horses? She was happily accompanied by her WellieWishers American Girl doll Camille.
What else did we do this week? My girls always enjoy seeing friends, doing a craft that involves glitter and glue, and trying new foods with a Taste Test. One of our week's highlights was a birthday costume party celebrating a little 5-year-old. My girls of course dressed up as Cinderella and Tinkerbell. It's fun to have occasions to raid the dress up box and create a fun costume! The birthday girl was also wearing a beautiful dress inspired by the recent live action Cinderella movie.
Birthday parties are fun, and dress up birthday parties are even more exciting! Every kid loves to have an excuse to dress up. We even made some homemade glittery lace crowns to celebrate the occasion and as a special homemade birthday gift. Lace Crown DIY Tutorial here »
Tinkerbell wanted to be a big girl and swing by herself on the backyard swing.
We had a fun typical summer week, despite not being able to get out and do much with little ones. Summer afternoon activities that my kids enjoy include making homemade finger paint, coloring fun paper character puppets, practicing motor skills with sensory water beads, and playing with our DIY Rapunzel princess tower. What activities do you enjoy doing with your family during the summer?
