Be the star of Thanksgiving dinner with these yummy Stuffed Cinnamon Apples! They are basically like apple pie inside an apple with a flaky basket weave crust on top. Yum! If you can make an apple pie, you can easily make these and wow your friends with your creativity. All you need is the same ingredients as apple pie. You can use your family recipe or any basic apple pie recipe. If you need to be quick, you can also use canned apple pie filling with pre-made puff pastry dough for the crust.
Mix together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. In another bowl, sprinkle apples with the lemon juice and toss. Stir in the sugar mixture to evenly coat the apples and add in dots of butter. This handy apple peeler and corer helps you peel and slice your apples quickly and efficiently!
Cut the dry ingredients into the flour using a pastry cutter. Add the water tablespoon by tablespoon until the dough sticks together. Once blended, turn out the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out with a rolling pin.
For my Stuffed Cinnamon Apples, I used a small glass to cut out circles of dough.
Carve out whole apples to create cylinders, and tuck a circle of dough inside each one to add a bottom to the stuffed apple.
Using dough as the bottom of the apple allows you to completely remove the core.
Fill each apple with the apple pie filling and top with a lattice weave of dough strips.
We baked our stuffed cinnamon apples at 425 degrees for about 30 minutes, until slightly browned on top.
