I'm the type that never really uses shaving cream because it seems to make my shaving experience worse. It just didn't seem to do much for me other than give my skin goosebumps and irritate my skin. This makes for sore legs after shaving. I found that shaving went better just using plain water. That is, until I started using shave scrub.
This shave scrub has been so heavenly for shaving. Not only does it make my legs the smoothest they have ever been after shaving, but the sugar in the scrub also exfoliates the skin. So what's in it? That's the best part! Only two things! Well, three things if you decide to add some essential oil. I make my shave scrub with just coconut oil and sugar. And it rocks. Not only is it free from chemicals, but coconut oil is actually really good for your skin.
The thing with coconut oil is that it is going to be a different consistency depending on the temperature in your home. If you keep things cool, it will be more stiff. If your house is really hot, it will be more liquid-like. Which is why you need to just experiment a little bit until you get a good texture. I start with 3/4 cup coconut oil and 1 cup sugar, and then I adjust from there. Here are a few pictures of the process so you can get an idea of what the end product looks like:
