Winter can be a tough time for those of us with eczema, so when The Eczema Company asked us if we'd like to review their products, I was excited to try them out! The Eczema Company was created to help families deal with the daily challenges of managing eczema. I received the EczeHerbal set from Zi Zai Dermatology to use on my own dry skin.
I've discovered that eczema is different for every person and it's important to discover what triggers eczema for yourself. Topical care is wonderful for relieving itching, but often there's a deeper issue present, such as a food allergy or sensitivity to certain ingredients in a product. I personally discovered I'm sensitive to citrus, so regulating my citrus intake has helped my eczema flair-ups tremendously. I took a complete break from eating citrus last year for more than 3 months, and after that "fast" I can now successfully enjoy it in moderation. If you have regular or uncomfortable eczema, you may just need to discover what triggers it for you.
Nevertheless, I experienced abnormally strong eczema earlier this month most likely due to the cold and dryness of winter. These products from Zi Zai Dermatology helped tremendously in relieving temporary itching, especially in the middle of the night.
EczeHerbal products are formulated and hand crafted according to the theories and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which emphasizes treating both the root cause and symptoms simultaneously. This ointment is formulated in the USA with natural and non-toxic ingredients, safe for topical use and if accidentally ingested.
The EczeHerbal collection treats a range of eczema; dry & itchy, red & weepy, and thick & scaly. I didn't discern too much of a different between the three, but each temporarily helps relieve itching and reduces redness and inflammation. A little goes a long way and the ointments sink into the skin without feeling greasy. I use #2 primarily on my hands and #1 on red patches on my feet.
I also received bamboo moisture gloves to use at night. These gloves work best to lock in the moisture after applying a product to your hands. They help to relieve overall dryness and itchy spots (and also help prevent scratching in your sleep). I use these with the EczeHerbal products, and I've also used them with regular hand lotion.
My eczema primarily shows up as dry patches that itch at various times. Often it's easy to ignore but there are also times when I have to apply topical ointment to relieve itching. EczeHerbal #2, formulated for Red, Dry, Itchy Eczema, has been the product I've used the most on my hands.
EczeHerbal ointment moisturizes and heals dry patches with regular application (up to three times a day). I usually put it on in the morning and once before bed. It also helps heal any cuts or splits I have from winter dryness.
Overall, I've been impressed with the three formulations of EczeHerbal. It's not a cure-all, since cold, dryness of the air, and internal sensitivities all can contribute to eczema, but it does temporarily help relieve eczema symptoms and offer external healing.
