I love making creative desserts that are yummy and beautiful. I especially enjoy decorating, although icing roses and designs aren't the easiest things for me to accomplish. I was excited to check out a set of Russian piping tips that make creating frosting flowers a whole lot easier once you get the hang of it, requiring a motion that's a lot like stamping them out. You can decorate your cakes, cupcakes, even muffins and scones with these beautiful flower icing designs. Each piping tip makes a different kind of flower.
I found these russian piping tips by Culinary Genius take some practice to get used to making beautiful flowers. The directions recommend washing them before the first use. These stainless steel piping tips are easy to screw onto your icing bag. I did have to buy a large icing bag coupler separately, which I picked up at a craft store for $1.99. Large couplers are also available on Amazon for around $5. You can make all kinds of frosting flower designs using this set of stainless steel piping tips. It's important use frosting that is fairly stiff and cold. You can keep sticking the icing back in the refrigerator to keep it cool, otherwise the icing will come out of the piping tip in a puddle and not look like a flower. I plan on practicing and posting some of my decorative icing projects soon. You can also use these culinary piping tips with any color of icing to create a vibrant collection of beautiful desserts! I thought it was fun to experiment with multi-colored icing to create flowers that have a color gradient. These icing tips are available on Amazon. I'd recommend purchasing them for your next cake or cupcake decorating project.
The few things I didn't like include the bit of a learning curve required to make these flowers. I had quite a few unsuccessful attempts, but I'm also not a regular cake decorator by any means. At first I tried to use the tips like a conventional icing tip in a swirling motion, which produced bad results. These tips are meant to "stamp" icing on your cake creations. My icing also got pretty soft which also didn't make great flowers. Icing must be stiff and cold to come out of the piping tip cutouts in a defined form. Second, the tips are rather large and you can waste a lot of icing if you switch between tips a lot. Other than the learning curve and some wasted icing, these piping tips are really fun to use and can make your baked goods look gorgeous! If you love making beautiful desserts, you should definitely pick up your own set of Russian Piping Tips by Culinary Genius and start practicing with them. Once you get good at making the flowers, I'm sure you could design all kinds of amazing desserts!
