One my favorite things about having girls is seeing them enjoy the toys and activities that I loved as a child. American Girl is one of my all-time favorite brands. I loved collecting the American Girl dolls and accessories, making my dolls custom clothing and choosing new outfit sets from the AG catalog. I gave my oldest daughter my Truly Me American Girl doll as soon as she was old enough to take care of her and we’ve grown our collection with several new BeForever Dolls and the WellieWishers Camille and Ashlyn. My girls also enjoy dressing up American Girl’s latest BeForever doll Nanea Mitchell, a Hawaiian girl from 1941.
My kids love collecting tiny toys. They enjoy adding to sets they already have and they love setting up little play sets and making up story lines. My girls typically are able to play pretend around age 3, and now that both my girls are older than 3 they have lots of fun playing together and setting up their toys. We recently discovered some fun play sets from Wicked Toys that feature re-imagined mini versions of the Cabbage Patch dolls. My girls loved checking out the details of these miniature Little Sprouts play sets and also discovering which surprise creatures were inside their Egg Babies!
Technology is everywhere, but it’s important for kids to also play with low-tech toys and hands-on activities that encourage kids’ imaginations and coordination. Here are some low-tech activities kids can play with in the car and at home, featuring a DIY I-Spy shaker, Window Jammers and more!
My kids love running around and playing in the yard. My girls also love crafting, designing their own art, painting their nails, making blanket forts, and helping me cook dinner or bake cookies. When I shop for kids’ gifts, I try to find things that are fun but also encourage my kids to burn off energy or be creative! Here are some fun fall kids activities, gift ideas and ways to make the shortened fall days a little more interesting.
Trends come and go but some brands are timeless. I loved playing with American Girl dolls as a child and my girls love playing with them now. Getting out all my old AG outfits and accessories brings back the fun memories I made as a child. American Girl has changed a lot over the years but their characters remain classics, with both modern and historical stories that girls can relate to and learn from.
As soon as my little guy started crawling, his enthusiasm for going on adventures took off. My two little girls keep me on my toes, but my little boy wants to constantly climb, scamper and explore. Keeping him out of the street was a full time job before we moved to a house with a fully fenced yard. Boys also play differently than girls — they like to crash things together, throw their cars, and figure out how their toys work. Here are some of our favorite toys and activities that are especially interesting for little boys.
