It’s no secret that cloth diapering is the cheaper route in the long run for the average family, but initial start-up cost can be a little overwhelming. Thankfully, cloth diapering on a budget is possible. Here are a few quick tips to get you started.
We love dressing up around here. My girls love making necklaces, designing crowns and running around in twirly dresses. I love dressing up too and it’s even better to find clothing that allows me to comfortably run after the kiddos. Our warm weather weeks are filled with playing in the yard and splashing in the inflatable swimming pool. I recently discovered a gorgeous clothing line, Gudrun Sjödén, which offers many tunics, dresses and accessories that are comfy and stylish.
Do you have mountains of toys at your house? I often feel like my kids have more toys than they can possibly play with. Birthdays, garage sales, holidays, and spontaneous purchases all add up to create a mountain of toys. Here are my top ideas for streamlining your playroom and organizing your kids’ toys.
Do you have a picky eater? Sometimes it’s about all a mom can handle to get a child to eat their lunch. My kids have gone through stages of pickiness during meals. My oldest loved eating everything as a baby; kalamata olives, goat cheese, spaghetti, artichoke, you name it. She’s become quite a bit more picky but still is often willing to try new foods. My little guy is all about meat and cheese which he eats almost every meal. When kids go through stages of picky eating, parents can use simple strategies to encourage their kids to eat healthy food. I’m excited to share some easy ways to make meals fun and healthy and sneak in some veggies too!
It can be tricky for households with young kids to get along, especially as the dynamics change as kids get older or a family brings home a new baby. It’s important to teach kids hands-on values for life as they interact with each other throughout the day. Learning to be cheerful and generous during playtime will benefit kids later in life too!

With 3 kids in my home, I can tell you the clothing can pile up quickly. Now that the kids can “almost” dress themselves and undress just as quickly, clothing ends up everywhere. Here are some of the basics our family uses to minimize clothing clutter so the kids only have access to the clothes that they need.

“Want a fun and inexpensive project to do with your kids (or for yourself if you’re still a child at heart)? Making a marshmallow shooter is easy. Materials generally cost less than $5. The main item you need is 1/2-inch PVC pipe. You can cut the PVC pipe yourself with a handsaw or pipe cutter (around $10) or take your measurements with you to your hardware or home improvement store. Many stores will cut the pipe to your specifications for free.”
Life with girls can be filled with glitter, tulle, twirls, and mermaid tails. My girls especially seem to enjoy mermaids. We have mermaid pillows, mermaid tail blankets, mermaid toys, and many mermaid costumes. There’s something about mermaids that is enchanting for kids. I remember as a child wanting to learn more about mermaids; what do they do? what do they eat? The fun can be whatever you’d like because to the best of my knowledge, mermaids are pretend. Here are some fun ways we like playing mermaids in our house.
Kids can be picky when it comes to food. My oldest daughter loved eating a wide variety of foods up until she was about two years old and then she decided to only live off chicken nuggets and yogurt. With three kids now, I’ve had to set some standards for lunch time to avoid creating different meals for each child or squabbles over the kids changing their minds about what they want to eat. I agree with parents who think kids should eat the food they are given and be thankful. Moms can also creatively encourage their kids to enjoy healthy foods. We never force the kids to eat a plate of peas, but their tastes have developed for fresh fruit, some veggies with ranch, and a good variety of meats and grains. I can help provide nutritious meals too by purchasing whole grain crackers, healthy cheese, Greek yogurt, and making smoothies that include spinach and carrots. I also give the kids a Probiotics supplement to help their little digestive systems. Here are some of my fun healthy kids’ lunch ideas!
Traveling with young kids or even going shopping can be tricky. As soon as we had our 3rd child, we knew we needed to figure out some creative ways to escape the house with 3 kids. I wasn’t eager to leave the house with a newborn and two toddlers, so for a few months I only did errands if my husband could watch at least one child. Slowly I got used to the idea and now it’s a lot easier to take all three kids with me but I’ve still experienced some near-impossible events of having to corral the kids through the parking lot or chase them down while holding my purse and a baby. I’ve found the most effective way to keep track of my two toddlers is to trap them in the stroller, or let my more responsible daughter walk and trap my 2-year-old and 1-year-old in the stroller. I absolutely love our Joovy Caboose Ultralight. It has everything; seats, platforms, secure restraints, pockets, pouches, storage areas, and it easily folds up to fit in the trunk of my Civic. It feels just as streamlined as a regular stroller except that it fits two kids! I’m excited to share why I love this stroller, a basic essential for any family who enjoys getting out with young kids!
Everyone loves a party! St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday to celebrate by hosting a cute kid’s party and play date with friends! I love hosting friends especially when it allows my kids to play with their friends too. St. Patrick’s Day isn’t a huge holiday, but we like to enjoy some yummy kid-friendly treats and delicious limeade, and let the mommies catch up and the kiddos play! Here are some yummy snack and treat ideas for a Shamrock kids’ play group (or any kids’ party)!
Winter can feel long, especially when your family is cooped up inside with limited available activities and even some winter sickness. It’s important for kids to have an interactive daily routine to feel active and to engage their minds. We had more than a foot of snow for weeks on end this winter, which limited our ability to play outside or even leave the house. With a bit of creativity you can find ways to help your kids enjoy the long weeks of snow and months of winter!
It can be hard for moms to keep up with their kids’ changing clothing sizes, especially with changing seasons too. My girls can easily share some of their clothes and the rest of their wardrobe ranges from 2T to 5T, which adds up to lots of clothes and lots of laundry. To minimize the many clothes on the floor and stuffed into the drawers, I’ve come up with a few tips to keep our kids’ clothing streamlined so they can easily wear their favorites and reduce the extra clothing clutter.
My little girls have always loved to play mommy. Girls watch their own mommy and often can’t wait to have their own babies and take care of them. Playing mommy is a sweet interest to nurture, especially by encouraging little girls to help take care of their little brothers and baby siblings. My girls also love to do crafts so this week we made some little mommy crafts so my daughters could take care of their baby dolls. Check out how we made an adorable baby bed from a cardboard box and easy no-sew baby doll bibs!
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! I love celebrating this holiday with my kids and family. It’s festive and breaks up the post-Christmas winter months. If you have never considered using all natural disinfectants for your home, now is the perfect time to switch to green cleaning solutions. Some recent surveys have proved that about 40% of the cleaning products and disinfectants sold on the market are not efficient against microbes and bacteria. Household solutions such as vinegar and borax prove to be effective against bacteria, without all the chemicals.
These coordinating outfits from American Girl are such a beautiful gift idea that any girl will love! American Girl is one of those brands that I know I will find something I love every time I browse their catalog or website. My daughter looks so pretty in her matching dress with American Girl doll Maryellen.
My girls love the story of Beauty and the Beast. This classic story from Disney is a timeless tale that even preschoolers and toddlers can enjoy. My 4-year-old loves Belle’s twirling through the fields of dandelions and dancing across the ballroom in her yellow ball gown. The intricacies of the Beauty and the Beast storyline escape her, but that doesn’t prevent her from enjoying the overall story. My 2-year-old just tags along for the fun! We recently made some fun Beauty and the Beast inspired kids’ crafts so my daughters can twirl around the house as Belle, complete with her magic mirror and the Beast’s enchanted rose. I hope you enjoy our fun Disney inspired kids’ craft ideas!
We know all about little girls around here. My girls love ruffles, dressing up, and accessorizing with flower headbands. They need no convincing to try on new outfits unless my youngest is feeling particularly partial to her beloved purple tutu. If so, good luck convincing her to change. I’m excited to feature some of the latest fashions from Matilda Jane Clothing’s Once Upon a Time collection and our tips for how to make easy DIY Flower Headbands!
Little girls come with lots of personality, interests and preferences, and heads of tangled hair. My little girls wake up every morning with huge teased bedhead hairdos, so we start the morning routine with brushing out their locks. Don’t miss our simple hair tips and little girl fashion picks!
Moms know, stuff seems to pile up with each kid that you add to your family. The most intense stage for me is the baby stage, when you have to carry all of the baby’s things AND carry the baby. My 12 month old is so close to walking and once that happens I will feel like I’ve finally “arrived” in some ways. My baby boy is so eager to be able to get around on his own. Up until baby begins to crawl or walk and even after, there are lots of essentials that you need to bring with you everywhere you go. After experiencing all the happenings that come along with having 3 kids, here is my list of diaper bag essentials for covering your bases without bringing too much along.
In my family, I’m most blessed when I see my kids enjoy something I did for them or with them. I love doing crafts with my girls and hanging out in the evenings with my husband, watching Netflix. I honestly don’t feel like I need many gifts because I’m already so blessed by my babies’ smiles and giggles and warmth of my home. I enjoy cooking and cleaning (when I feel especially motivated) and I love decorating in ways that are kid-friendly, easy, and pretty. My favorite colors are dusty aqua and lavender and I love dressing up my girls in cute little outfits. I have 3 healthy kids under the age of 5 (and I wouldn’t mind having another) and I’m a stay at home, work from home mom who enjoys drinking lots of coffee — God has blessed our family much more than we deserve. What more could I wish for? So I when I say, “here’s my Mommy Wish List for the holidays!”, I just mean these mommy gift ideas are fun extras for stylish home decorating, luxurious products for making a mommy feel pampered, and fun toys that enhance a mom’s hobbies of photography and coffee drinking. (yes, I’m my family’s resident barista!) I’m sure you’ll find something you love on my gift list for moms!
